Ejaculatory failures

Ejaculation is a process linked to sexual desire and sexuality. It is considered to be a reflex similar to sneeze. The process of ejaculation is under control of two kinds of nervous system input- sympathetic (autonomic) and somatic nervous system. Ejaculation process involves coordinated muscular and neurological events. It includes deposition of semen in the urine channel and ejection of the fluid from the external opening of the urethra (the organ through which urine is discharged).

Causes

Ejaculation problems are seen as complex and can be caused due to various factors such as:

  • Relationship problems

  • Anxiety

  • Previous traumatic and sexual experience

  • Some other medical conditions like diabetes, spinal cord injury and multiple sclerosis etc.

  • Stress etc

    .

Types

There are different kinds of ejaculation disorders. The three main types are:

  • Premature ejaculation

  • Retarder ejaculation and

  • Retrograde ejaculation

Premature Ejaculation

It is one of the most common ejaculation problems. When the male ejaculates too quickly during the sexual intercourse, it called premature ejaculation. Many men are unaware of the fact that how the ejaculation will last. Studies say that, the average time for ejaculation is five-and-a-half-minutes. Ejaculating before or within one minute can be considered to be a medical problem which require treatment.

Medications such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and such kinds of antidepressants are used to treat premature ejaculation.

Retarded Ejaculation

Delay in attaining ejaculation or inability to ejaculate during sexual intercourse can be considered as retarded ejaculation. The issue is also known as delayed ejaculation or male orgasmic disorder.

SSRIs and such antidepressants are also used to treat retarded ejaculation. Other treatments may vary according to the underlying causes of the issue.

Retrograde Ejaculation

It is one of the rare types of ejaculation disorder. When the sperm travels backwards and enters the bladder instead of coming out of the end of the urethra, the person fails to ejaculate. This condition is called as retrograde ejaculation. The condition is irritating as the person experience the feeling of an orgasm and could not produce semen (some times, may produce very little semen). The condition is not dangerous, but it can cause infertility.

The main solution for retrograde ejaculation can be fertility treatments. There are medications that can help to restore normal ejaculation in certain cases. Even when, some men could enjoy sexual life and so they do not go for treatments. Another factor is that, ejaculation problem do not affect the health of the individual. In such circumstances, some may not consider it for treating. People who wish to have children should opt for treatments.
